Driving in Germany

You can rent a car with a US driver’s license. International licenses are accepted, but not legally required.

There are no tolls for private cars on German roads.

Cars pass on the left, with some exceptions. You can pass streetcars on the right, unless there isn’t enough room, in which case you can pass on the left.

Parking is prohibited within five meters of crosswalks and intersections, 10 meters before traffic lights, and within 15 meters of a public transport stop.

The maximum speed limit for private cars and other vehicles on autobahns and four-lane roads is 130 km/h. The speed limit is 100 km/h on other roads.
