Europcar in New Zealand
New Zealand is divided in two - the North Island and South Island. Few places on earth can compete with New Zealand’s stunning landscapes and varied terrain (mountains, lakes and coast). With a relatively modest size (around the size of Colorado), New Zealand is an ideal country to discover by car.
Europcar has 22 stations conveniently located across New Zealand. Some of our popular stations include Auckland, Christchurch, and Queenstown airports - picking up from here are great base points to start your adventure on the road. Whether you’re looking for a city car, a four-wheeled drive to tackle rough terrains, or something a little bigger, Europcar has both car and van rental options to complete your New Zealand experience.

Driving in New Zealand
New Zealand’s diverse terrain means roads are often narrow, steep and winding with lots of sharp corners.
Plan your journeys with care, taking into account longer distances, rural areas and weather conditions that could affect driving. Always check the weather before you set off; particularly during winter when driving becomes more difficult with snow, ice and fog.
Be aware that New Zealand’s railroad crossings are not all automatic. Most will flash lights when a train is approaching, but some just include stop signs. When you see this, make sure to stop, check both directions, and only cross when you are sure it is safe.
The maximum speed limit on roads (including highways) is 100 km/h and 50 km/h in urban areas. In school zones the maximum speed limit is 40 km/h.
