Dublin City Centre, Lombard Street location

Dublin City, located on the east coast of the island, is the capital city of Ireland. The city is chock full of history that ranges from Viking times over a thousand years ago to most famously the Irish fight for independence. Irish culture is at its best in the city as this thriving city offers a huge amount to offer to tourists from stunning architecture, fabulous theatre, famous pub culture, and endless activities.

Located just off Pearse Street, our Europcar location on Lombard Street is within a five minute walk from the city centre. From here you can explore the vast amount of attractions located in the city and its surrounding areas. We offer a wide range of cars and vans to fit any need you might have.

Dublin’s history began when Vikings first invaded Ireland and used this ideal coastal location as a settlement. In the city centre there is an interactive museum called ‘Dublinia’ which brings Viking and medieval times back to life through intricate exhibits and informative characters. The city’s later history is apparent at every turn as you’ll be met with stunning architecture reminiscent of the time of British rule. Large Georgian structures can be found throughout the cobble streets of Dublin.

The city’s most famous historical event was the 1916 Easter Rising which triggered a fight for independence from British rule. A group of republicans took control of various points across the city and fought tooth and nail for a long weekend before surrendering, many martyrs came of the rising and inspired many to take up arms for a free Ireland. Remnants of the rising can still be seen today on the façade of the GPO where bullet holes still remain from the bloody struggle.

There are a variety of theatres and performing arts centres across the city which put on shows ranging from amateur productions to international touring groups. Music has played and still plays a huge role in Irish life, this is evident even when walking the streets as you’ll hear buskers with great talent throughout. There are a huge number of music venues from big to small which feature international acts as well as rising young Irish talent.

The world famous pub culture that is associated with Ireland is extremely evident in the Irish capital. Temple Bar on the south side of the Liffey is a must see for any visitors. The cobbled streets are home to many traditional pubs where patrons will find excellent traditional music spilling onto the streets.

Some of the country’s best attractions can be found in the city, most notably is the ‘Home of the Black Stuff’. The Guinness Brewery which provides Ireland’s famous worldwide export can be found on the south side of the River Liffey. The Guinness Storehouse offers tours around their facilities walking you through the history of the company and the brewing process that goes into making the famous stout. Upon finishing the tour you can travel to the Gravity Bar which towers above the Dublin skyline offering fantastic views of the entire county while you enjoy a pint of Guinness which you can pour yourself.
