What is Express Checkout and how does it benefit me as a customer?

Europcar Express Checkout allows you to upload your driving license, identification documents and your contact information before your rental begins, saving you time at the counter during pickup. By completing this process in advance, you can reduce your waiting time at the station, and start enjoying your trip sooner.

Note: Express Checkout is available only for rentals taking place in Finland. In other Europcar countries, a similar service called Online Check-in is offered, depending on the country.

Is Express Checkout mandatory?

While it is not mandatory, as you you can still provide your documents at the rental counter, we highly recommend taking advantage of Express Checkout to speed up the pickup process and ensure a smoother experience at the counter.

Can I still check in at the counter if I prefer not to do Express Checkout?

If you prefer not to use Express Checkout, you can still provide your documents at the rental counter. Our staff will gladly assist you and guide you through the process. However, using Express Checkout can save you time, especially during busy holiday seasons.

How do I access the Express Checkout?

There are several ways you may access the Online check-in process:

If you have booked directly with Europcar, once your reservation is confirmed you will receive an email 48 prior to rental informing you Express Checkout is available for you. If your rental begins sooner, you will receive the email shortly after booking. Click the link in the email, and it will guide you through the necessary steps to complete the process.
On the Express Checkout page, you can also update your booking details using your reservation number, last name, and rental start date. In this case, you will need to verify your email address by requesting a verification code to be sent to your email and entering that code on the Express Checkout page.

What information do I enter in Express Checkout?

Through Express Checkout, you can provide the following details:

Driver’s information (address, phone number, personal identity code)
Photos of your driving license and ID card/passport
Additional driver details
You can also add various extra protections and services to your booking.

What are the steps?

When you arrive on the Express Checkout page, you will be guided through the following steps:

Confirm your booking details: When you access the Express Checkout page, you will be asked to confirm your reservation number, last name, and pick-up date. (You can skip this step if you enter the process via the email link.)
Fill in your contact details: Check or enter your contact information, date of birth, email address, and driving license number.
Upload document details and photos: Add your ID card/passport and driving license details. Upload photos of both sides of your ID card and driving license.
Confirmation email: Once the process is successfully completed, you will receive a confirmation email verifying your online check-in.

Can I do my Express Checkout on a laptop/desktop or mobile phone?

You can complete your Express Checkout using a laptop, desktop computer or mobile phone. The service does have tool for photos, so it’s most convenient to take and save photos of your ID card and driving license separately (both sides) before uploading them.

What additional services can I purchase in Express Checkout?

You can add the following to your booking through the service:

An additional driver
Medium or Premium protection packages (available if you are at least 26 years old)
Roadside assistance
Cross-border fee

In Finland, cross-border travel is allowed to Sweden and Norway.

What documents do I need to upload for Express Checkout?

You will need to take a photo of your ID card (or passport), as well as your driving license for verification purposes. All your documents must be valid (not expired) by the moment your reservation ends.

Can I use the digital version of my driving licence?

At the moment, we only accept photos of physical documents for Express Checkout, including your driving license.

Do I need to do the Express Checkout for the additional driver? How?

Express Checkout is typically completed by the primary driver listed on the booking. You can also add the additional driver’s details in Express Checkout in the same way as the main driver’s information. However, they will still need to present their physical documents for verification at the rental counter when adding them to the rental agreement.

Can I upload a pdf of my documents?

Due to security reasons, we only allow scanning the photos of the physical documents for Express Checkout. This ensures the highest level of accuracy and security when verifying your identification.

Do I still need to bring my physical documents to the counter during pickup even after uploading them online?

While Express Checkout streamlines the process, you still need to bring your documents with you. All drivers need their license to drive a car, and the agent at the counter may need to verify your identity further. So, even after uploading them online, it's important to have your physical documents with you during pickup.

You can cancel your reservation after completing Express Checkout (rental terms apply).

What happens if my documents are found to be invalid during verification?

If your documents are not accepted, during your pick-up our team will assist you in completing the process in person and provide further guidance at the desk. Please ensure to bring your original documents with you to the counter for verification.

How long are my documents stored?

Your documents are securely stored for the duration of your rental period and a reasonable period thereafter, as required by legal and regulatory obligations.

Do you need my credit card information to do Express Checkout?

We do not require your credit card information to complete the process. Express Checkout primarily requires uploading and verifying your identification documents to accelerate the pickup process at the rental counter. How long does the process take?

Is there a deadline for completing Express Checkout before the rental starts?

To ensure a smooth pick-up, we recommend completing the online check-in at least 24 hours before your scheduled pick-up time.

Do I need to complete Express Checkout online check-in for every booking? Why?

Yes, Express Checkout must be completed for each new booking. This helps us ensure that we have your most up-to-date personal and contact information, which speeds up the pick-up process. If you have rented in Finland before, you only need to confirm that your previously provided details are still valid—there’s no need to re-enter them.

We store your data in compliance with regulations and delete documents according to data protection rules once they expire.

Is Express Checkout online check-in available at all rental locations and for all vehicle types?
