Rent a car at Dublin Airport and hit the ground running

Ireland’s capital city is chock full of things to see and do over the course of your visit. Dublinia is a museum that focuses on Viking and medieval times in the city exhibiting artefacts, structures and characters from that period in a fun and informative way perfect for a family day out. The city is home to Ireland’s world-renowned export, Guinness. Perched on the River Liffey you’ll find the Guinness Storehouse which offers tours around their facilities which go through the history of the company and the brewing process behind the famous stout. Upon finishing the tour, you can visit the Gravity Bar which rises above the city’s skyline offering great views of the city. Throughout the streets visitors will find great theatres, fascinating museums, and iconic establishments like Trinity College.

The architecture found in and around the city is great evidence of this, one can find a huge amount of Georgian structures dotting the streets of Dublin. Dublin was the location of one of the most defining moments in Irish history, the 1916 Easter Rising. In April of 1916 Irish Republican fighters took over several key locations around the city and fought tooth and nail against the British forces over the course of 6 brutal days. The British forces, superior in numbers and artillery, put an end to the rebellion and arrested and executed many of the instigators. This event led the way in Ireland’s fight against British rule and inspired many who came after and secured an independent republic. Remnants of the rising can still be seen today, especially at the General Post Office on O’Connell Street where bullet holes can still be found on the outer façade of the building.

Hire a car from the airport and explore the best of Dublin

If you’ve hired a car then you’ll have the freedom to explore the surrounding countryside of Dublin. South of Dublin you’ll find Glendalough, an age old monastic settlement nestled in a valley amid the beautiful Wicklow Mountains. A visit here is a great day out for all the family as the fascinating ruins coupled with the sprawling open land is a delight for all. North of Dublin lies one of the oldest monuments found in the world, in the historic Boyne Valley there resides Newgrange which dates back to 3200 BC. The burial mound predates Stonehenge and the Egyptian Pyramids and is one of Ireland’s top attractions.

Europcar Dublin Airport offers a gateway to explore, not only Dublin but the entire island as once you have your car you are free to travel down the major routes and visit the best locations Ireland has to offer.
