Which type of damages are being charged after returning the vehicle?
We understand returning a vehicle in perfect condition isn’t always possible. To help you know what to expect, here are the main types of damage that could result in charges after your rental ends.
🛡️ Important: Damage costs are limited by the coverage option you selected and subscribed to at the start of your rental. If you added a protection package (like Damage Waiver or Super Cover), your liability may be reduced or even eliminated, depending on the level of cover.
1. Light Damage
This includes minor damage that doesn’t require immediate repair and is not considered fair wear and tear, such as:
- Small scratches, scuffs, or dents
- Loss of or damage to non-essential accessories or documents
You may be charged:
- A fixed amount based on our Light Damage Charges Schedule
- A Light Damage Administration Fee
2. Serious Damage
Serious damage is anything beyond light cosmetic issues, and may include:
- Large dents, deep scratches, or structural damage
- Interior damage, including excessive dirt, stains, or evidence of smoking
- Improper use of the vehicle, such as carrying hazardous waste
Depending on the damage type, You may be charged for:
- Repair or cleaning costs
- A Loss of Use Charge (for time the vehicle is off the road)
- An Engineer’s Fee
- A Serious Damage Administration Charge
3. Tyres, Windscreens, and Essentials
Charged separately for damages like:
- Damaged or punctured tyres
- Chipped/cracked windscreen
- Lost or damaged essential equipment
Includes:
- Actual replacement/repair cost
- The damage admin fee
