Can I take my rental car across borders?
In many cases, yes—but there are some important conditions to keep in mind. Generally, taking abroad a vehicle rented in a specific country outside requires a prior written consent and the purchase of a specific package.
This applies to all international travel, including:
- Visiting the Republic of Ireland.
- Driving from/to France via the Channel Tunnel or ferry.
- Any longer trips through continental Europe.
Cross-border travel with a Europcar vehicle depends on:
- The country where you rented the vehicle
- The type of vehicle (some categories may not be permitted)
- The countries you plan to visit
