Are you transporting bulky items? Moving furniture into storage? Or maybe even moving house? However big or small the job, we’ve got a vehicle to suit in our van hire fleet in Australia.

The Volkswagen Caddy Maxi is ideal for smaller jobs, with its 3.7m3 capacity, and is compact enough for confident city driving, while the Volkswagen Transporter is slightly larger with 5.8m3 of space. And if a pick-up is more your thing, choose one of the Holden Colorado models such as the Crew Cab Auto, the Dual Cab, or the Auto with canopy.

Van driving tips in Australia;

Driving a truck or pick-up in Australia should be relatively simple once you’ve got used to the larger size of the vehicle. Take a few minutes when you first get in to familiarise yourself with the layout and controls so you’re prepared for the journey. Here are a few tips:

  • If you’re new to driving in Australia, remember that you must drive on the left.
  • Be aware of speed limits, particularly in towns and cities where residential areas and roads close to schools often have 50km per hour or 25-40km per hour limits. Signage should tell you what the limits are and when they apply.
  • It’s a good idea to avoid peak times in cities when traffic will be at its busiest.
  • Plan your route in advance and make sure it doesn’t include any roads that are unsuitable for large vehicles.
  • Be aware of the height of the vehicle and check it will fit under any structures such as low bridges or car park entrances.
  • A large truck may need a bit more space for turning than you’re used to so be sure to allow for this when parking and manoeuvring.
  • Slow down, particularly in windy conditions.
  • Carrying a heavy load can affect braking and acceleration so make sure you allow for this.

And now, your cargo is all loaded and you’re prepared for the trip, so it’s time to be on your way and hit the open road!
