Discover Dubai and surroundings by car

Dubai is a mesmerising world of towering skyscrapers, lavish shopping malls and ancient trade routes with manmade islands giving this part of the world a unique and distinctive feel. There’s so much to see and do here with a hire car making it easy to discover some of the most notorious attractions including the Burj Khalifa – the world’s tallest building standing at 828 metres.

Located at the base of the iconic Burj Khalifa you’ll find the Dubai Fountain which delights passers-by with an impressive dancing water show. Each colourful, illuminated jet moves to the beats of international tracks with water streams being powered more than 150 metres into the air. This beautiful attraction also welcomes guests to the famous Dubai Mall which is a shopper’s paradise thanks to its 1200-plus shops.

While Dubai is renowned for its modern architecture, the ancient waterways and souks are still very much a talking point, with the Dubai Museum being a particular highlight. You may also want to explore the labyrinth of alleyways which are home to a number of exciting stalls, or take a ride across the water on a traditional abra – a small, motorised taxi.

The Dubai Marina is a sight to behold too as are the many beaches Dubai has to offer with Kite Beach being the ideal place to practice your watersports. You could even take a trip to one of the many man-made islands including Palm Jumeirah which is accessible by tram.

If you want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, a 20-minute drive from Downtown Dubai will take you to the Arabian Desert where you can enjoy a safari, go sandboarding, ride a camel or simply enjoy an adventure of your own – the options are endless.

Driving in Dubai

In Dubai, almost everyone has a car – and you’re sure to see some rather spectacular models cruising along the fast and busy roads. Tinted windows are particularly common. These can hamper visibility and make vehicles hard to see in the dark so beware of this if you plan to drive at night.

Speeding and tailgating are also problems in Dubai, but whatever you do – don’t join in. Drive within the recommended speed limit and be sure to stay on the right and overtake on the left. As well as watching out for other road users, you should also be on the lookout for animals such as camels and goats – particularly as you head into more rural territory.

With regards to desert driving, always plan your route carefully to avoid getting lost – or join a guided tour.

On-street and off-street parking is available throughout the city and is usually chargeable. There are many ways to pay for parking such as buying prepaid cards at supermarkets or grocery stores. You can also make the most of apps such as Smart Parking.

Amazing architecture

With a hire vehicle from Europcar Dubai International Airport Terminal 1, you’ll be well-placed to tour the city’s most impressive architecture with the Burj Khalifa being particularly breath-taking. Towering 828 metres above Downtown Dubai and providing exquisite views across the city, this iconic structure is currently the world’s tallest building and is not to be missed.

Desert adventures

If you fancy escaping the hustle and bustle of the city centre you can do so with one of our smart, comfortable hire cars. The Arabian Desert is just a 20-minute drive away from the skyscraper-packed city and is a great place to enjoy a desert safari, ride a camel or try your hand at sandboarding.
