Visby is a small city so, it is rather easy to drive around but in summer time, at peak touristic season, it gets a bit tight and crowded.
When driving, please be aware of the maximum speed limits which are: 50 km/h in urban areas, 90km/h on dual carriage ways, and 110km/h on the motorway.

Get in your car and head north on Route 149 from Visby. Drive along the west coast for about 30 minutes and you will find a beautiful fishing port called Lickershamn. The beach and the imposing cliff gazing down the chilly waters of the Baltic sea are a delight, and the drive is actually a highlight in itself. Find the path that leads you to the famous promontory, known as the Maiden, and once you’re there, just close your eyes and listen to sea!
You can also drive towards the southeast coast of Gotland to find Närsholmen, about 60 km from Visby. Welcome to the Swedish savannah! Established in 1986, this natural reserve is home to about 45 species, beautiful birds and orchids. When the summer fades out into fall, the place is covered with blueweed.
The Island of Fårö
The Island of Fårö is an idyllic Baltic Sea island located north of Gotland. If you are staying in Visby and Gotland, you need to head to Fårö. Hit route 148, drive for about 55 km and catch the ferry to Fårö. You will fall in love with its beautiful beaches, rock formations (called Rauk) and with the gorgeous fishing villages. If you are a a fan of famous film director Ingmar Bergman, once a Fårö local, visit the Bergmancenter which hosts exhibits and screenings of his work.
