Europcar appoints new Chief Commercial Officer in Germany

Europcar, Europe’s leading car rental company, announced today the appointment of Dr. Bernd Schmaul as Chief Commercial Officer of its German unit, Europcar Autovermietung GmbH. The appointment takes effect on November 1, 2009. In this newly created role, Bernd Schmaul will oversee the Marketing, Sales and Customer Relationship Management departments. He joins the Europcar Germany Executive Board alongside Roland Keppler, who was appointed Chairman of the German unit on March 1st of this year.

Like Mr. Keppler, Bernd Schmaul joins Europcar from German airline TUIfly, where until October 2009 he was a member of the Executive Board and responsible for the airline’s commercial and marketing activities for the past two years. Prior to TUIfly, he held various positions with airline company Lufthansa. A physics graduate with a PhD in Business Administration, Bernd Schmaul is 42 years old.

‘The appointment of a new Chief Commercial Officer is key to strengthening Europcar’s commercial development and brand presence in Germany,” said Roland Keppler. “Europcar stands for first-class service and a top-quality fleet of cars. To maintain our long-term position at the forefront of the German market, we must communicate our strengths more clearly and vividly to our customers. Based on our very successful collaboration at TUIfly, I am confident that Bernd Schmaul is the right person for this task.”

Dieter Neuhäusser, Executive Board member of Europcar’s German unit, leaves the company on October 1st after 13 years with the company. He transferred to Europcar from Volkswagen AG in November 1996 as Human Resources Director. In January 2001 he was promoted to Executive Board member and also took charge of the Finance and IT divisions. He made a significant contribution to the development of the German subsidiary which was founded in Hamburg in 1927 and is now one of the world’s largest car rental companies.

Numerous awards such as the Business Traveler Award for "Best car rental company in Germany" (2006, 2007, 2008), the World Travel Award for “World's Leading Leisure Car Rental Company "(2007, 2008) and for the first time in 2008 awarded "World's Leading Green Transport Solution Company” demonstrate Europcar’s high quality of service and commitment to sustainable development.

“I would like to thank Dieter Neuhäusser for his commitment and many successful years at Europcar Germany and wish him every success, both professionally and personally, for the future,” said Salvatore Catania, Chief Executive Officer, Europcar Groupe.
